Canadian Market Opportunity for Serbian ICT Sector

The market of Canada, especially in the sector of ICT, will be a big opportunity for Serbian companies, said Mihailo Vesovic, the director of the Sector for Strategic Analyses, Services and Internationalization of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS) at the seminar dedicated to the presentation of the possibilities of cooperation with Canada, the CCIS announced.

Canada is becoming an increasingly important exporting market for the placement of ICT services, because, even with the goods trade, when it comes to the trade of services with Canada, Serbia is recording a surplus.

Milan Dobrijevic, the state secretary at the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications pointed out that the Serbian ICT sector was developing rapidly and that, by 2027, the exports of that sector were expected to reach EUR 10 billion. He added that, having recognized the importance of digitization and ICT, the Government of Serbia continued strongly supporting that sector through investments in infrastructure, incentives and education.

Representatives of Samuel Associates, a company which specializes in working with American and European companies which are looking to enter the North American market through Canada, presented the opportunities of doing business in that market.

Jamie Bailey, Director, Atlantic, pointed out that Canada is a market of 40 million consumers and one of the fastest growing economies to invest in research and development, and what makes this market especially favorable is the privileged access to the American market, which is why Canada is often called the gate of North America.

As he pointed out, the leading sectors are agriculture, telecommunications, green technologies, health sector, and the startup community is especially strong and developed. The lack of available professionals in the ICT sector is an opportunity for the Serbian economy, Bailey concluded.
