New passports only after the results of the poll in Montenegro - biometrical passport for Europe

According to the statements of domestic officials, the citizens of SCG will still travel with the blue passport of SRJ, and the introduction of a new technology in the area of road documentation will begin after the destiny of state's community is solved. Within the jump of the fee for visas for entering EU for 25 eur, is calculated the fee of transfer to the new biometrical system.

MUP of Serbia already posesses a technology and possibility for putting in 1.200 of base stations which would make possible to gather information for each citizen in only 10 minutes, and to give out a travel document in most of 3 days. Even tough there has been a word that this year they would start issuing new passports, and that there has appeared fear of changing the passports 2 times because of the poll in Montenegro, first the one of the community, then in the second version of Serbia or Montenegro, or even of the community of independent states, this is not going to happen. The work of introducing the biometrical system in USA should be done by the end of this year, while only a few of the European countries is ready to relatively fast transfers to the new technology.

EU has already once before asked for prolongation of the deadline, and the Montenegro minister of internal affairs, Jusup Kalomperovic has recentley optimistically stated that Montenegro would start issuing new passports starting from January or February of 2007, by announcing an international tender and printing their passport abroad. According to the evaluations of EU last year the most ready for new documents are Finland, Belgium, Austria, Germany, Luxembourg and Sweden, and therefor EU asked last year from USA to change the deadline for August of 2006. It is obviously a matter of very expensive and delicate work.

On all of this the Law of travel documents of Yugoslavian citizens is way old, which is obvious from the title, so the people's saying "Serbia to Shengen" is very realistic. SCG, or Serbia and especially Montenegro, or maybe the community of independent states still needs to go through connecting with the network of informational system of MUP and dimplomatic - consular representatives, which is one more condition for getting nearer to Europe. There has been talk on the streets that issuing of the new passports is delayed because of the fight who would get such big job.

At this moment for issuing of the new passport are capable MUP and Bureau for issuing bills, but the police would do biometrical job, and the Bureau would as so far be printing the forms. Considering that the beginning of charging more expensive visas of EU will start in September, but that there are some statements of possibility for it to start even in April, the issuing of the new documents waits for SCG as well.
