Another EUR 2.3 Million for Reconstruction of Yugoslav Drama Theater and Construction of “Bojan Stupica” Stage

The Government of Serbia, at the proposition of the Ministry of Culture, has adopted the decision on allocating additional funds of EUR 2.3 million for the reconstruction and repair of the Yugoslav Drama Theater, the ministry announced.

As they say, with the previously allocated EUR 1.6 million, so far, nearly EUR 4 million has been set aside for a full repair and reconstruction of the Yugoslav Drama Theater building, which entails the repair of the roof, the reconstruction of theater halls and the replacement of chairs, stage technology mechanisms and elevators.

The planned works are in progress, and care is being taken for the theater season and the play performances to go as planned.

The ministry adds that those proceeds from the credit of the Council of Europe Development Bank are also planned to be used for the preparation of the project for the new “Bojan Stupica” stage, and the work on that facility will begin after all the necessary documentation has been collected.

Jugoslovensko dramsko pozorište osnovano je 1947. godine kao reprezentativno pozorište nove Jugoslavije. Mnogi najznačajniji glumci iz Zagreba, Novog Sada, Sarajeva, Splita, Ljubljane i drugih gradova pozvani su da učestvuju u stvaranju ovog pozorišta.

Godine 1947, reditelj Bojan Stupica je postavljen na čelo kuće kao umetnički rukovodilac. On i kritičar Eli Finci postavili su temelje repertoarske orijentacije JDP-a kao pozorišta visokog literarnog nivoa. Jugoslovensko dramsko pozorište je nastalo na mestu jahačke škole, adaptirana je konjušnica i pretvorena u scenu.

Prva predstava je odigrana 3. aprila 1948. a reč je o komadu „Kralj Betajnove“ Ivana Cankara u režiji Bojana Stupice.

JDP je izgorelo do temelja 17. oktobra 1997, navodno zbog greške na instalacijama. Pozorište je ponovo sagrađeno, a Velika scena je iznova otvorena 23. maja 2003. predstavom „Rodoljupci“ Jovana Sterije Popovića u režiji Dejana Mijača. Velika scena sada nosi ime velikana srpske glumačke scene, Ljube Tadića. (Wikipedia)
