Integrated Road Toll Collection System Between Serbia and Greece Might Be Established by Beginning of Summer

The competent ministries of Serbia and Greece will do everything in their power for a system of integrated road toll collection to be established between Serbia and Greece by the beginning of summer, it was pointed out following a meeting between the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, and the minister of infrastructure and transport of Greece, Christos Staikouras.

Vesic said that Staikouras and he had agreed that the cooperation of the two countries in the field of traffic and transport was very good, especially in air traffic, and that plenty more could be done for the cooperation to be even better.

– We have talked and agreed to do everything in our power in the coming period for the system of integrated road toll collection to be established between Serbia and Greece by the beginning of summer, so that our tourists and those coming from Greece could use the same tags for passing through both our countries – Vesic pointed out.

As Vesic said, instructions have already been given to the competent institutions to finalize the preliminary procedures which include cost-effectiveness studies and deal with the technical, administrative, commercial and legal aspects of the implementation of electronic road toll collection.

– In the coming weeks, we will contact our Serbian colleagues and draft a plan with all the technical details and costs – said Staikouras.

As he said, the rail connection between the Port of Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Skopje and Belgrade is also of great importance for regional connectivity and transport.
