After a two-week collective winter vacation, the 500 employees at the Stellantis factory in Kragujevac have returned to their jobs, and they are also “reinforced” by the group of workers who were on a temporary job at a car factory in Poland.

Around 25 workers, whose 11-month employment at Stellantis’s factory in the city of Tychy in Poland has expired, have returned to the factory in Kragujevac.

According to the president of the Autonomous Trade Union of the car factory in Kragujevac, Sasa Djordjevic, by July this year at the latest, over 100 workers who are temporarily engaged at the car factory in Trnava, Slovakia, will also return to Kragujevac.

These workers have been in Slovakia since 2022, because they accepted the offer of the then employer, Fiat, to work at the factory in Slovakia until the production of the electric vehicle begins in Kragujevac.

Djordjevic expressed his conviction that they will also join the workers at the Stellantis factory in Kragujevac, which is well on its way to the serial production of the new electric car, which is expected in the third quarter of 2024.

He points out that their work and training experience from Fiat’s factories in Slovakia and Poland is very significant, because electric cars are already produced at those factories.

Car radiator and exhaust system lines “gone”

Djordjevic said that intensive preparations for the beginning of the production of the new electric car had continued in the new year and that trainings had been organized for workers in the country and abroad.

– To describe how much everything has progressed, I would say that I am sure that the colleagues who have exited the Fiat factory and gone to work abroad would now not be able to recognize the factory where they used to work on the 500L vehicle – said Djordjevic.

He didn’t want to disclose the details, but he said that, for example, the car radiator and exhaust system lines were “gone”, given that electric vehicles don’t feature those elements, and that the engine line was different too.

Djordjevic said that, every day, the factory was full of workers from numerous companies hired for the equipping of the capacities for the new production cycle.

As Stellantis announced at the end of 2023, a new generation of electric vehicles will be produced in Kragujevac in 2024.

Some media reported that it was the new Panda Hybrid, which should cost EUR 15,000, and the electric one, whose price should be around EUR 20,000.
