Rakija is mostly exported to Croatia, BiH, Montenegro, Germany and the USA, but the list of those destinations is expanding, so local rakija is now being prepared for the markets of Azerbaijan, Lithuania and Latvia, as Infostud reminds.
Aleksandar Bogunovic, the secretary of the Association for Plant Production and the Food Industry of the CCIS, said for that website that there had been a greater interest in the opening of distilleries in the preceding years, but that it was mostly people who wanted to do that as an additional job, that is, as a hobby which they would do in the manner proscribed by law.
– With the adoption of the Law on Alcoholic Spirits, the procedure of the registration of producers has been considerably simplified, so due to that fact, a large number of those who previously made rakija decided to register and operate in a legal way. Annually, around 100 new distilleries are founded, but a certain number is also deleted from the register. The majority are small producers, but the fact is that the number is growing, as is the production of rakija in Serbia – says Bogunovic.
