On Wednesday or Thursday, the agreement on the construction of one part of the city railroad, from Zemun Polje to Surcin, which will lead to Expo and the Nikola Tesla Airport, will be signed, announced the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic.

– We will connect the airport with the networks of our railroads. That is one of the conclusions from the meeting I had with my colleagues from the Balkans – he said.

At the presentation of the Belgrade Subway project, at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering in Belgrade, he said that, in 2030, when the first two subway lines were to be completed, along with the construction of the BG Voz system, the capital city would have close to 80% rail public transport.

– That kind of transport, in addition to its high capacity, is very environmentally friendly, and with the gains in terms of traffic, that will also be the biggest gain for Belgrade from the subway system – Vesic emphasized.

He said that Serbia now had 76 km of fast railroads, from Belgrade to Novi Sad, and that, in 2023, the country had had a record five million passengers in rail traffic and that there would be even more, considering the construction and completion of various railroads.

According to him, next year, the fast railroad to Subotica will be completed as well, and the construction of a fast railroad to Nis will begin. He also added that the fast railroad to Skopje was expected to be completed by 2030.

– The railroad to Sarajevo will be reconstructed with BiH, the Hungarians will complete the railroad from Budapest to our border by 2026, and we would work on establishing rail connections with Bulgaria and Turkey – said Vesic.

He announced that, in 2024, the reconstruction of 1,200 km of regional railroads would be agreed.
