IMF Wants Inflation in Serbia to Be up to 8% at Year-End

The expectations of the IMF are for the inflation rate in Serbia to be at 8% or lower at the end of the year, said the head of the IMF Mission, Donal McGettigan, as announced by the PR Service of the President of Serbia.

– McGettigan emphasized that Serbia had achieved excellent results, strictly complying with the recommendations of the International Monetary Fund and implementing the goals defined by the arrangement with this institution. This is shown by record FX reserves, good fiscal policy results, a high inflow of direct foreign investments, as well as data from the labor market about the strong growth of the employment rate. He emphasized that Serbia had reacted on time with adequate economic measures to inflation pressures and added that the expectations of the IMF were for the inflation rate to be at 8% or lower at the end of the year – the press release says.

Talking about the reform of state and public companies, IMF representatives, as added, welcomed the steps taken to the end of transforming and stabilizing EPS and pointed to the necessity of accelerating the restructuring of state companies. The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, emphasized that macroeconomic stability, as well as a good business environment, had been preserved and added that Serbia, “despite the numerous challenges in the global market, has managed to preserve the economy and even strengthen it additionally.”

The IMF Board of Directors, at which the conclusion on the success of the second review of the arrangement will be adopted, will be held on December 21 this year.
