Surgical Procedure on Abdominal Wall Done for the First Time at University-Clinical Center Nis

The Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery of the University Clinical Center Nis, in cooperation with their colleagues from the University Hospital in Madrid, organized a two-day working event “Advanced Anterior Abdominal Wall Surgery”.

Within the practical part of the event, a surgical procedure called TAR was performed. This is the most modern minimally invasive surgical approach to a complex reconstruction of the abdominal wall in cases of large hernias.

– This is the first time that a state health institution is doing this method and the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery plans to introduce TAR as a regular procedure – said the head of the center, Bojan Jovanovic M.D.

The main surgeon in this procedure was a professor from the University Hospital in Madrid, Javier Monclus M.D. PhD, who pointed out that the plan was to establish permanent cooperation between the clinics in Nis and Madrid.
