Belgrade Berry Festival on September 22-23

The second Belgrade Berry Festival will be held on September 22-23, organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS) and the German Organization for International Cooperation (GIZ). The aims of the festival are to incite the consumption of berries and to emphasize the importance of that fruit farming sector, which produces remarkable results even in the years of the biggest crises and market disturbances, said the adviser to the president of the CCIS, Veljko Jovanovic.

– As co-organizers, we take part in gathering everybody who participates in the production, processing and distribution of berries, which Serbia is known for worldwide – Jovanovic added.

The first day of the festival will take place in the CCIS premises at 15 Resavska Street, where sustainable production and the market will be discussed by experts for marketing, innovations and production, and the second day of the festival will take place on the plaza behind the “Beogradska Zadruga” building.

Jovanovic said that the prices of berries – raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and blackberries, were not the main problem in production, because, despite the occasional increase due to crises, they remained stable in the long term and added that the most important thing was to work on marketing development and quality preservation, so that local producers would keep their position in the market.

– We are happy to support this very important sector for the agriculture of Serbia together with the CCIS through education and promotional activities, the crown of which is the festival, said Zagorka Markovic, a representative of GIZ.

She reminded that, according to the statistical data from 2021, 31.8% of the total value of the exports of frozen organic berries was comprised of exports to Germany, worth EUR 18.25 million.

In Serbia, berries are currently grown on around 40,000 hectares.
