Contemporary intermodal transport terminal in Batajnica by 2014 - Investment worth 20 million euros

An intermodal transport terminal in Belgrade will be built in the vicinity of Batajnica and it will cost about EUR 20 million, it was announced today at the presentation of the project Intermodal Transport Enabling in Serbia.

Minister for Infrastructure and Energy Milutin Mrkonjic stated that the construction of a modern intermodal terminal in Batajnica might begin in March 2012 since all the necessary documents were expected to be collected until then.

- The works should take 18 months to complete. A completely built and developed logistics center in Belgrade may provide 1,000 new jobs, while the construction of the terminal should attract over 100 domestic and foreign companies. The land expropriation will cost about EUR 3 million - said Mrkonjic.

The logistics center will have all the necessary equipment and facilities for loading and unloading goods, as well as a crane, a warehouse and other necessary equipment. Its construction will help relocate around 50,000 freight trucks from the city core.

After considering several locations, the Ministry for Infrastructure and Energy chose a 180-hectare lot in Batajnica because of its proximity to the junction of railway and road routes on Corridor 10. The terminal will be situated between the railway station Batajnica and Batajnica cloverleaf interchange, which is currently under construction as part of the bypass around Belgrade.

Implementation of the project Intermodal Transport Enabling in Serbia commenced in September 2010. The project is worth 2 million euros and the funds are provided from a donation of the EU.
