Slobodan Cvetkovic Assumes Duty of Minister of Economy – Presents Priority Goals at “Days of America in Belgrade”

The newly appointed minister of economy of Serbia, Slobodan Cvetkovic, has assumed his duty at the building of the Ministry of Economy.

The deputy prime minister, Sinisa Mali, who had performed the function of the minister of economy until the appointment of the new minister, handed over the duty to Cvetkovic, as well as the report on the Ministry of Economy’s activities in the preceding period and wished him success in his further work, the press release says.

– Being appointed the minister in charge of the economy of Serbia is a great honor for me, but also a great challenge – Cvetkovic said and emphasized that he would “continue working on economic reforms by improving the growth and modernization of the industry, investing in infrastructure and affirming consumption, which have so far been the principal driving engines of economic development and enabled Serbia to act as one of the global leaders in attracting direct foreign investments.”

– My task as the minister of economy will be to secure the further institutional support to the business environment, that is, to enable to business community to maximize its business potentials, which will contribute to the growth of the entire economy and the welfare of all citizens – he said.

Day of America in Belgrade

The new minister took part in the “Day of America in Belgrade” conference within the “Serbian-American Economic Bonds” panel and, on that occasion, talked about the further development of the economic relations of Serbia and the USA.

– The boosting of the interstate economic cooperation of Serbia and the United States of America also contributes to the improvement of the political relations between the two states. This is also shown by the numbers, according to which, there are currently 620 American companies operating in Serbia at the moment, which have invested over USD 4.5 billion in the Serbian economy and which employ around 30,000 of our workers – Cvetkovic said.

As the priority goals which are necessary to realize in the near future, he cited negotiations about returning Serbian products within the preferential tariff system of the USA as soon as possible and the signing of the agreement on avoiding double taxation.
