The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has advertised, on behalf of the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications of Serbia, an international call for the pre-qualification procedure for the construction of a broadband internet network in rural areas in Serbia (phase 2A).

The job will be split into two lots, and it entails the planning and construction works on a total of 3,280 km of an underground optical network (midmile) in rural areas in 85 municipalities of Serbia.

The call opened on August 24 and closes on September 25 at 3 pm. More details can be found HERE.

The job will be financed with the proceeds from the EBRD loan. As announced earlier, this is an investment worth EUR 500 million.

The minister of information and telecommunications, Mihailo Jovanovic, stated in June that the ministry had devised the plan to introduce fast internet in over 700 villages by the end of 2025, whereby practically the whole Serbia would be covered by broadband internet. The current coverage rate is 75% of the country’s territory.

The project was started in December last year and the plan is to build over 4,700 kilometers of optical cable routes and connect over 120,000 households and around 720 school facilities.
