Around 1,600 Bankruptcy Proceedings Active in Serbia – How Long Does One Bankruptcy Procedure Last?

As of the beginning of August, there are 1,603 bankruptcy proceedings active in Serbia, as per the data of the Bankruptcy Supervision Agency. This number excludes the bankruptcy proceedings which are carried out according to the Law on Compulsory Settlement, Bankruptcy and Liquidation and the bankruptcy proceedings of banks and insurance companies, which the Deposit Insurance Agency is in charge of.

Since the beginning of the year, 224 bankruptcy proceedings have been initiated in Serbia, and according to the data available to the Bankruptcy Supervision Agency, by August 2, 773 bankruptcy proceedings were terminated. By that date, a total of 6,618 bankruptcy proceedings were completed.

The total average duration of 8,994 bankruptcy proceedings is three years, one month and 29 days (active, terminated and completed), and the total average duration for the bankruptcy proceedings initiated according to the Law on Bankruptcy Proceedings (a total of 5,252 proceedings) is four years, one month and nine days.


For the bankruptcy proceedings initiated according to the Law on Bankruptcy (a total of 3,742), the average duration is one year, 10 months and five days.
