As a contracting party of the Energy Community, Serbia should increase the share of renewable energy sources in its gross energy consumption to 40.7% by 2030, according to the project, launched by the international environmental protection organization The Nature Conservancy (TNC). Within the project, the researchers mapped the best locations for solar power plants in our country.
Following the success of a pilot study in Croatia, which identified enough low-impact land to meet half of Croatia's total national goal for solar and wind energy by 2030, The Nature Conservancy recently conducted a similar assessment of solar potential across Serbia.
The result of the study is a map that overlaps the potential of solar development with the potential of impact, as well as a selection of the 100 best locations for solar development according to both criteria, with an estimated installed power of 10 MW per power plant, i.e. 1 GW in total.
