STP Nis to Get Facility with Capacity of up to 1,000 Users of Office and Laboratory Space – Construction Expected to Begin by Year-End

The agreement on a loan of EUR 80 million which the Government of Serbia has signed with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will be used for the improvement of the scientific infrastructure, the construction of new and additional buildings of science-technology parks. The agreement on the project was also signed by the director of the Science-Technology Park (STP) of Nis, Milan Randjelovic.

As the Government of Serbia announced, EUR 70 million is intended for the additional construction of science and technology parks in Nis and Cacak and the construction of a whole new one in Krusevac. STP Nis says that the construction of a new unit will open the possibility of employing up to 1,000 new people of Nis.

– The new facility will be built in the northwestern part of the STP Nis complex, between the multipurpose unit of the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and the Students’ Center restaurant, which will entail close to 9,500 m2 meant for office space and 900 to 1,000 square meters meant for laboratory space. The planned capacity of the facility is 700 to 1,000 users – the STP said.

The director of STP Nis, Milan Randjelovic, stated that the extension of the STP Nis facility would enable the current and future companies to freely work and develop and that it would make for one of the most important strategic facilities for the development of southeastern Serbia.

– I sincerely hope that the implementation of this project will help raise the competitiveness of our cities and the region and that, this way, we will contribute to improving the employment of young, highly-educated people – Randjelovic said.

The plan is to announce tenders for the execution of works in the government and parliament of Serbia after the contract is confirmed, and the prime minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, said that they expected them to start by the end of the year.
