Construction of First Waste Water Treatment Plant in Belgrade to Begin in Late Summer This Year?

The construction of the first waste water treatment plant will begin at the end of this summer, and the construction of all five plants will cover the whole Belgrade, so waste waters will no longer flow directly into our rivers – said the deputy mayor of Belgrade, Vesna Vidovic, according to Beoinfo.

While taking part in the campaign of cleaning the Sava coastal area on the occasion of the International Day of the River Sava, which is marked on June 1, she said that Belgrade, although a large European city, had no waste water treatment plant.

The director of the Public Water Management Enterprise “Srbijavode”, Goran Puzovic, specified that the campaign encompassed the cleaning of the location in and around the Cukarica branch, so he invited all the good-willed citizens to join.

– One of the special goals of this campaign is to treat waste properly, because the collected waste will be adequately sorted, disposed of and recycled or composted – pointed out Goran Puzovic.

He emphasized that, on the occasion of the International Day of the River Sava, a range of educational workshops, sports activities and online platforms about the preservation of rivers would be organized and that everything would be adapted to children of various ages. Kindergarten-age children and younger elementary school pupils have the opportunity to learn about important concepts such as rivers, floods, pollution, waste and recycling in an interesting way.

The International Day of the River Sava is marked each year on June 1, with the aim of promoting the importance of this river for all countries in its basin. Serbia is an equal member and signatory state of the International Sava River Basin Commission (ISRBC), and “Srbijavode” takes active part in the operations of this commission in all expert groups.
