1. The word "logistics" comes from the 19th-century French word "logistique", which was originally exclusively associated with the transport of soldiers and military supplies, until later adopted for civilian applications.

2. Did you know that the largest ship in the world used for logistics can easily carry and transport the Eiffel Tower?

3. Barcodes were originally used to mark cars on railroads. Due to their success, their use was expanded to include supermarkets in 1974 and since then they have been used in retail, logistics and many other industries.

4. There are 15.5 million trucks in the US, but only 3.5 million qualified truck drivers. These drivers are responsible for more than 70 percent of the total amount of freight transported in the United States.

5. The "father" of supply chain management is considered to be Henry Ford, who designed and built his factories to manage his inventory and delivery needs as easily as possible.

6. Air transportation is more than four times more popular than maritime transportation. Every year, 9.5 billion tons of goods are being shipped by ship worldwide, but more than 42 billion tons of goods are being transported by air.

7. Do you know that you can arrive anywhere in the world using only some of the logistics channels. A Danish traveler, Tor Pedersen, has been traveling the world without using air transport since 2013. He is sent from port to port like a package, traveling virtually free of charge, via cargo ships, as well as using road and rail. In this way, he intends to visit every country on the planet. As of April 2020, Tor has already flagged 194 of the 203 planned countries.

8. If you lined up all the sausages delivered every year by logistics companies around the world, you could climb all the way to the moon.

9. On average, a truck driver travels about 804.672 km per day. And let`s say five times a week, or 50 times a year. With about 7 million trucks on the road worldwide, that`s a combined distance of about 1/5 light year. Or, to the Sun and back nearly 6,000 times.

10. An average small business truck driver drives approximately 2,083 days. That`s almost 5 years of his life.
