cargo-partner is a global logistics company that is about to celebrate 40 years of business. Recently, they expanded their storage capacity in Croatia, opened a new warehouse in Slovenia and Turkey, last year they also opened representative offices in Greece, Barcelona, Indonesia and Mexico, and they are planning to expand their business in Serbia, too.

With Sales and Development Director Nebojša Djekić, we summarize the successes of the company that offers a comprehensive portfolio of solutions for air, sea, road transport and storage with particular expertise in information technology and supply chain optimization.

Where is cargo-partner now, after four decades since its establishment and what did you achieve during that time?

- The story of our company is inspiring and proof that when there is a true desire, everything is possible. cargo-partner was founded back in 1983 in Vienna, as a family business closely specialized in air transport, and at that time our team consisted of only a few colleagues. However, shortly after our establishment, we realized that the needs of the market exceeded our services, after which we gradually included other modes of transport in the portfolio. Over time, we expanded our operations to an increasing number of markets and built a large network of our own offices and partners that we can boast of today. Although today the cargo-partner family consists of more than 4,000 employees, when the company emerged from a small office in the Austrian capital, each laid foundation stone for a new warehouse makes us happy as if it were the first.

We welcomed the beginning of the new millennium with the development of our online platform SPOT for transport and supply chain management, after which information logistics became our narrow specialty and with which the cargo-partner began a new adventure in which it always strives to keep up with digitalization and technological innovations. I personally have been with cargo-partner for almost half of their journey and I can testify that this "moving the boundaries" has become our business philosophy in a way over all these years.

We had the pandemic, then the conflict in Ukraine, and even though both crises are still ongoing, it seems that inflation is now the main focus of the business world. How does global price growth affect the transport and logistics industry?

- Inflation has brought significant changes in consumer behavior, but also in costs along the entire supply chain. We cannot say that some radical changes have taken place in transport, because it is a vital element of every business and as such cannot be avoided, but certain variations have definitely occurred. Clients are the ones whose choices dictate the trends and prices in our industry, and accordingly, the goods that are the subject of transport have changed, the routes by which these goods are sent, the volume of business has flowed from one modality to another, etc. For a global company like cargo-partner, which offers all kinds of transport solutions in its portfolio, this means modifying existing ones and developing new solutions and services.

Air transport has gained importance because it is the ideal solution for time-sensitive shipments, and timing is one of the most important factors for successful business in an uncertain environment like today`s.

Nearshoring has consequently led to increased volumes on intra-European and other routes. Indo-Asia has become an increasing competition to the Chinese market, which has also brought about a change in transport flows. We at cargo-partner strive to always be one step ahead of all challenges, but in practice this is not always feasible, but new services are created in response to the needs of our clients. We strive to listen to our clients and understand their business and the challenges they face. Hence our famous motto "we take it personally".

Modern technologies have become inevitable in any sphere of the economy. Where is cargo-partner when it comes to IT innovations in business?

- Digitization has brought numerous benefits for modern business, including logistics. Modernization of the supply chain is necessary today and this is precisely why our company specializes in optimizing the supply chain using modern technologies. Our application development team is constantly improving and expanding the portfolio of solutions and continuously putting in extra effort to ensure that clients get exactly what they need. Even if the standardized services are not adequate, we develop completely unique solutions for our clients` needs.

We are especially proud of our SPOT online platform, which allows you to know what is happening with your shipment at any time. Spot gathers all participants in transport in one place in order to optimize all processes and make the flow of information as simple as possible - from purchase to production, transport, storage and distribution.
Additionally, we can connect our customers` systems to ours via EDI or API to automate data exchange, minimize manual work, and improve data quality and visibility.

Social responsibility is another segment that is increasingly important for companies, there is a lot of talk about so-called green logistics - what can your company set apart in that business domain?

- Today, every business has a certain impact on the environment, but despite this fact, the battle for sustainable development does not have to be lost. To begin with, it is important to be aware of the impact on the environment and not to run away from it, but to integrate social responsibility into the very vision of the business. One of Cargo-Partner`s largest projects is the all-wood construction of the logistics center in Fishamend, which resulted in a total reduction of carbon emissions by 8,400 t. The forms of reducing the effects that our industry has on the environment are actually numerous and are applied in everyday business, from saving paper, electric forklifts, energy-saving LED lighting to solar panels, which are one of the planned investments for our warehouse in Dobanovci.

No less important is the support of research projects aimed at the development of new and more efficient forms of transport, but what I would particularly highlight are projects that were an ideal combination of beautiful and useful, such as the cargo-partner forest and the use of old tarpaulins for making bags and kits. Namely, for every satisfaction questionnaire filled out by our users, we planted one tree in cooperation with the Ecology platform. Today, our cargo-partner forest has more than 1,000 trees.

At the very end, I would add that it is important that our initiative does not end within the company, but that sustainable solutions and transport alternatives are promoted along the entire network, thus encouraging all partners, associates, and customers to the "green revolution".
