Over 160 Innovators Offer Business Solutions for Green Transition of Serbian Economy

Over 160 public and private companies, research institutions, civil society organizations, associations and local self-governments have applied their business solutions at the Challenge for Innovative Solutions for the Green Transition of the Serbian Economy, which opened in February this year, within the EU project for the Green Agenda in Serbia, the UNDP Serbia announces.

This invitation, which will be opened by the end of 2026, aims to support innovative solutions in all five key fields of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.

Innovative business solutions have been proposed in the fields of decarbonization (reducing the dependence on fossil fuels and shifting to renewable energy sources), circular economy (preservation and more efficient use of natural resources), reduction of environmental and air pollution, protection and preservation of nature and biological diversity and the establishment of sustainable systems for food supply and rural development.

For all candidates which met the conditions of the contest and passed the first selection round, an Info Day was organized where they received more information about the further steps for applying for mentoring and technical support in developing the proposed project ideas. For the solutions which show the biggest potential for bringing about environmental, economic and social benefits, co-financing for putting them into practice will be secured as well. The selected propositions are expected to contribute to the implementation of the Green Agenda and facilitate the realization of the obligations and goals in the process of Serbia’s accession to the European Union.

The great response to this invitation is the result of the joint work of local and international partners on inciting innovations and accelerating the green transition of the Serbian economy and society.

The Challenge for Innovative Solutions was published within the EU project for the Green Agenda in Serbia, which, with the technical and financial support of the European Union and in partnership with the Ministry of Environmental Protection, is implemented by the United National Development Program, in cooperation with the Embassy of Sweden and the European Investment Bank (EIB), with additional financial funds which have been provided by the governments of Sweden, Switzerland and Serbia.
