General director of Zastava Arms, Dragoljub Grujović, announced that, at the Arms Fair in Las Vegas, the negotiations had started with the representatives of the most famous manufacturers of arms on forming of joint venture – Zastava USA. The headquarters of the new company would be settled in America. It would deal with the production of semiautomatic weapons (submachine gun M92 and rifle M70) and, most probably, pistols. According to the announcements, the new company should be formed until the beginning of the next year.
Our semiautomatic weapons, which are produced on the basis of the Kalashnikov system, is evaluated as the best weapon of that kind in America. Our factory started to export semiautomatic weapons to America last year, but in pieces. At the Fair in Las Vegas, we agreed that we should first assemble the weapons and then export them. The value of this-year export to American market should reach amount of about 2.6 million USD, says Grujović, pointing out that that foreign currency income should not be confused with 3.4 million USD that Zastava Arms expect to profit from the business cooperation with American Remington, with which it signed contract on joint export of Zastava’s hunting carbines to the markets of USA, Canada and Mexico.
If the circumstances allow, during this year, Zastava Arms could export more than the planned 24,000 hunting carbines to the markets of USA, Canada and Mexico.
