Bulgarian Energy Minister Invites Serbia to Join New Initiative in Gas Sector in Southeast Europe

The Bulgarian minister of energy, Rossen Hristov, has invited Serbia to join the new initiative in the gas sector in southeast Europe, which is important to the exchange of information between the countries, in order to ensure an easier and more secure supply. The aim of the initiative is to also incite closer cooperation between the operators of transport systems in central, south and east Europe, as announced by the Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining.

– Regional cooperation on gas supply would enable us to better plan the necessary interconnections. That is why I am very happy about the initiative of the Bulgarian minister for the Republic of Serbia to join the EU states from the region and Moldova in creating a platform for cooperation, which would enable us to have an overview of the capacities, consumption, gas infrastructure, supply routes and open the possibility of cooperation on securing a more stable and favorable supply with natural gas for the whole region – stated the minister of energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic, who yesterday talked to her Bulgarian colleague about the regional cooperation in the field of supply with natural gas and the diversification of supply sources.

The ministers also talked about the construction of the gas interconnection between Serbia and Bulgaria.

– The works on the construction of the Nis-Dimitrovgrad interconnector are going as planned. A total of 70% of the agreed amount of pipes has been delivered, the preparatory works have been completed on 92% of the route, and we expect the works to be completed in the autumn. The gas interconnection will enable the diversification of the supply sources and give us the possibility to connect with gas sources from Azerbaijan and the Caspian region, as well as the LNG terminal in Greece – Djedovic said and added that the construction of interconnections with other neighbors, primarily North Macedonia, was planned as well.
