The Government of Serbia has adopted the decrees on the designation of port areas of two marinas, in Smederevo and Veliko Gradiste, and a port area of the international passenger terminal in Sabac. The initiative for the designation of port areas was filed by the Port Governance Agency in the previous period through the competent ministry.

The Port Governance Agency financed the preparation of the technical documentation for the designation of the port area of the Smederevo marina. Investments in the cleaning (dredging) of the waterway in the marina location are expected to be made this year. The advantages of Smederevo for the development of a marina are its favorable position, that is, the close proximity of the Smederevo Fortress, and other sports and recreation and cultural features.

In addition to the preparation of the technical documentation for the designation of the port area, the realization of the construction of a marina in Veliko Gradiste began as a result of the Memorandum of Understanding, signed with the Ministry of Tourism. The marina will be located on the Danube, in close proximity to the Silver Lake, and Veliko Gradiste will thereby become one of the attractive destinations for nautical experts, it is pointed out on the website of the Port Governance Agency.

The agency’s efforts toward the development of the Sava for cruise sailing have resulted in the investment in the construction of an international passenger terminal in Sabac. The works include the construction of a floating structures on piles, whereas, the structure itself will feature rooms for the accommodation of all the competent services and the port operator. The realization of this infrastructure project will contribute to the usage of the potential of the Sava for the improvement of international and local river passenger traffic.

The construction of marinas and terminals on the Danube and the Sava is one of the activities of the new project “Sail Through Serbia”, which the Port Governance Agency is commencing to the end of raising awareness among the tourists, the business world and the local self-governments of the possibilities for the development of sailing.
