Reconstruction of General Hospital in Uzice in Early 2023?

The General Hospital in Uzice is being prepared for a thorough reconstruction and extension. This multi-year project, if everything goes as planned regarding the obtaining of the necessary approvals and permits, should begin next year. The project envisages for certain deteriorated facilities in the hospital space to be demolition and for new ones to be built in their place, that is, a new 60,000 square meters. There will also be investments in the existing facilities and their reconstruction and equipping, reports Radio Pozega.

As the director of the Health Center Uzice, Natasa Gagovic, stated a few days ago for the ZOOMue portal, this entails a full reorganization of the entire hospital complex.

– The surgery department will be moved to a new building. That is the first phase of the construction and that building will be located in the space of the current parking lot behind the hospital, which currently features the microbiology and psychiatry departments, whereas the internal medicine branches will be moved in the current new block. The old hospital building will feature the outpatient-polyclinic part, as a part for quick surgical procedures. A facility will also be built where geriatric, palliative care and new psychiatric departments will be located. The infection diseases part will also be reorganized and expanded – Gagovic said.

Furthermore, it has been announced that a large number of parking spaces, as well as amphitheaters, will be built.

All this speaks to the fact that the Health Center Uzice (which covers the area of the Zlatibor District with around 300,000 users) will meet the required conditions and become the fifth clinical center in Serbia.

– In order to grow into a clinical center, we need the staff, and we are now on our way to meeting those standards – Gagovic said.

Although the initial announcements were that the works required EUR 80 million, a sum of EUR 120 million has been mentioned now. The City of Uzice financed the preparation of project-technical documentation with RSD 100 million.
