Largest Underground Gas Storage Facility in Europe Opens in Turkey

A program was organized in Silivri a few days ago on the occasion of the completion of the project of the increase of the capacity of the underground gas storage facility, where the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, addressed those present.
– Having increased the capacities, Silivri has become the biggest underground gas storage facility in Europe – Erdogan said.
He emphasized that, at that moment, Turkey, with the energy it services it provided to its citizens and the industry, observed by supply, was 17th in the world.
The capacity of the underground gas storage facility Silivri has been increased from 3.2 billion to 4.6 billion cubic meters, based on which close to 8% of the annual needs of Turkey for natural gas can be met. (Kemal Zorlak – Anadolu Agency)
– We are entering a new era in which we will bring our country to the top by picking the fruits of the labor we have invested in the past 20 years – Erdogan said and added:
– Our aim is to transform our country into a global center as soon as possible, where the reference price of natural gas will be set. We have determined our energy vision for reducing our external dependence on primary resources from 17% to 13% by 2053.
After the increase of the capacities, the storage facility will be able to meet close to 8% of Turkey’s annual needs for natural gas.
The needs of the facility for electrical energy will be met by a wind turbine with an installed power of 4.2 MW. The storage capacity has been increased from 3.2 billion to 4.6 billion cubic meters.
The daily reverse production capacity has been increased from 28 million to 75 million cubic meters, Biznis Info reports.
