Project team appointed for renovation of old bridge on the Drina near Mali Zvornik - 2 million euros for reconstruction

Preparations for reconstruction of the old iron bridge across the Drina, between Zvornik and Mali Zvornik, were resumed yesterday with the appointment of a joint project team made of people from these two municipalities.
The bridge that was opened by king Aleksandar Karadjordjevic on January 12, 1930, is in such bad condition that it can only be used by pedestrians, while vehicles go across the bridge in Karakaj, built in 1974.
According to estimates, reconstruction of the bridge will cost over 2 million euros.
The two municipalities do not have that money and they will ask the governments of the Republic of Srpska and Serbia to help them, Zvornik Mayor Zoran Stevanovic and Mali Zvornik Mayor Miodrag Lazic said to the press yesterday in Zvornik.
They announced that an open competition for elaboration of the project would be launched in late February and that the bridge reconstruction was expected to commence in 2012.
The Memorandum of cooperation in the bridge reconstruction was signed between the two municipalities on September 17, 2010.
