Dog restaurant with healthy food

The first eatery with healthy food for dogs where owners will be able to buy their pets a food without preservatives and additives, rich with vitamins and minerals, has been opened in Rio de Janeiro.

"We prefer to say it's an 'area for dogs' rather than a restaurant in a country like Brazil, where millions of people still suffer from hunger," said restaurant owner Roberta Camara who opened it in partnership with her husband.

They came to this idea because, as they say, Brazil is a big market for such type of products given that it ranks second in the world in number of dogs. It is assumed that about 32 million dogs live in the country.

The Camaras explained that the food was “better than that served by owners at home, because everything here is balanced and worked out by animal nutrition specialists.” The main advantage was that the menus were “a lot tastier than commercial dogfood.”

The couple have their spotless kitchen on display behind glass windows, through which the staff can be seen cutting fresh meat and vegetables into muzzle-friendly cubes and then serving them in white plates for small customers, while the prices are the same as the prices of the best industrial products for dogs.

And in keeping with restaurant tradition, customers can order their food to eat on the premises -- or, of course, in "doggy bags" containing frozen portions to be served up at home.
