Hotel Artist Whose Halls Feature Over 200 Artworks Opens in Subotica

A new hotel has opened in Subotica. The completion of Hotel Artist with four stars, a place which provides room for art, was supported by the Government of Hungary with EUR 880,000.

This four-star hotel features over 200 artworks. Levente Magyar, the deputy minister of foreign affairs and external trade of Hungary, pointed out during the opening that he was proud that a hotel of such quality could be linked to Hungarians.

In the newest hotel in Subotica, Hotel Artist, in Ivana Gorana Kovacica Street, for which the Hungarian government set aside EUR 880,000, Secession-style art is combined with contemporary art. After two years of work, thanks to the support from Hungary, the hotel was handed over for use. The owner, Zoltan Tamas, emphasizes that what makes this hotel special is that its halls feature over 200 artworks, as reported by Pannon RTV.

Zoltan Tamas says that he has been working in the pharmaceutical industry for years, but that few people know that art has been his passion for around twenty years now.

– I try to dedicate all my energy to modern art. This hotel is Secession-styled, and these ideas would not be feasible without support. So, thanks to the Hungarian government and the Prosperitati Foundation, because we have received support of around EUR 880,000 – Tamas says.

The total value of the project amounted to around EUR 3.2 million.

The four-star hotel has 30 rooms and apartments, with one-, two- and four-bed rooms. In addition to that, it has a congress hall, a center for Indian and Thai massage, a wine bar and a spa center.

Levente Magyar, the deputy minister of foreign affairs and external trade of Hungary, pointed out during the opening that he was proud that a hotel of such quality could be linked to Hungarians.

– This way, we are saying that, by reconstructing a historic edifice, we are honoring our past, a part of our past that has been taken away from us, and many still believe that it doesn’t belong to us, and we will take it back peacefully, to the benefit of the whole community. That is what today’s investment reflects, and what also reflects it is when we are working, striving toward the highest standard, the standard we can bring to this city, and not somebody else.

Istvan Pasztor, the president of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians, said that Hotel Artist was a tourist attraction in and of itself, as it promoted both the Secession heritage and contemporary art.

– It is possible to introduce modern features in a building that is over 100 years old, it is possible to introduce modern features in a way that doesn’t destroy what we have – Pasztor said.

What makes the halls of Hotel Artist special are sculptures and paintings. Works of local artists can be found there, such as paintings by Andras Siflis, Laura Sagmeister, or Geza Ricz.
