Freight Trains Travel Down New Belgrade-Novi Sad Railway for the First Time – No Explanation Why They’re Not Operating by Day as Well

For the first time since the new railway between Belgrade and Novi Sad was built and put into operation, on the night between September 17 and 18, 2022, cargo traffic was organized as well. The company Serbian Railways Infrastructure organized the operations of a total of seven freight trains on the fast railway between Belgrade and Novi Sad, namely, five from Belgrade and two from Novi Sad.

Freight trains will operate the route each night from 11 PM to 5 AM in the morning, on the sections of the main fast railroad Stara Pazova – Novi Sad – Novi Sad Ranzirna and Indjija – Novi Sad – Novi Sad Ranzirna.

Considering that the Belgrade-Novi Sad railway is an infrastructural facility of special importance, with the most modern equipment and of a great value, all the cargo rail transporters are familiar with their obligations and responsibilities, the supervision is increased to the end of increasing transport security, and additional technical inspection of the rail cars and train engines is mandatory as well, says the announcement by the Serbian Railways Infrastructure.

According to the announcements made so far, each night, between five and ten freight trains will operate the railway between Belgrade and Novi Sad.

The announcement doesn’t say why freight trains would not also travel by day on this two-track railway designed for mixed traffic.
