Predejane stays on changed route of Corridor 10 through Grdelica Gorge

Chairman of the Assembly of Leskovac Zivojin Stefanovic stated yesterday that the competent ministries and CIP Institute had accepted a proposal of the local self-government for a change in the preliminary solution for the new route of Corridor 10 through Grdelica Gorge that would not go around the small town of Predejane.

Stefanovic said at a press conference that the solution proposed by the city planners of Leskovac was 10 to 15 thousand euros cheaper because it did not envisage the construction of a tunnel 1.7 km long.

- We are already working on the new project and we expect the investor - Putevi Srbije, to approve it by the end of January 2011 - said Stefanovic.

According to the preliminary project prepared by CIP, Corridor 10 was supposed to go around Predejane and the namesake motel, which is the only company on that territory and employs 140 people.

- If that international highway went around Predejane, that area would be deserted in ten years because the cloverleaf interchanges would be built about 10 km from that small town - said Stefanovic.

The Chairman of the City Assembly said that "the tunnel lobby" had insisted on the construction of the highway trough a tunnel.
