The mega project of the architect from Rome Giorgio de Romanis will soon be promoted in Croatia. The project is about bridge across the Adriatic Sea, which means that the Croatian and Italian coasts would be connected. The promotion of the preliminary project for construction of bridge 120 km long, which should connect Croatian Zadar and Italian Ancona, will take place from May 21 to 24 in Dubrovnik. Four days before that, the bridge will be promoted in Hannover, at the Exhibit of European Mega Projects, De Romanis announced. The first time the preliminary project worth 20 billion EUR was officially represented, last year in Ancona, it provoked big disbelief of Italian and Croatian public. However, although De Romanis’ visionary idea provoked disbelief, sharp criticism and even opposition by some Croatian experts who thought the idea was utopian and unfeasible, 70-year architect still works relentlessly on the project enhancement and he claims that the bridge will be the real example of the limitless connection in Europe.

Following the completion of the preliminary project of the bridge, the preliminary project for sea terminal in the bay between Ancona and Pesar has also been completed. The terminal would be located on the artificial island that would be connected with the land through four road and railroad routes. The terminal would be settled 15 km from the coast and it would serve as the departure point for cargo and tourist ships from the East and the Atlantic. The goods from the ships on the terminal would be taken by cranes and cargo would be transported across the bridge by trains to the destinations in Europe, says De Romanis. Artificial island would be built on the open sea, on minimal surface of 400 square meters, with the foundations of 20-25 m.

The ships whose cargo capacity exceeds 200,000 tons could use the terminal. At the same time, the terminal would be able to serve over 20 different ships, from tankers to tourist cruisers.

The island would be protected from wind and waves by means of breakwaters, whereas the energy for power supply would be obtained through solar panels and wind power plants.

The project Ponte sull Adriatico has been presented on numerous meetings and exhibits and it caused big interest, says De Romanis. At the moment, his team, he claims, works on the book about bridge, which will soon be published all over Europe, as well as in Croatia.
