A representative of Snap, Liz Markman, confirmed for The Verge that internal testing of Snapchat Plus, a new subscription service for the network’s users, was underway.
– We're excited about the potential to share exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features with our subscribers, and learn more about how we can best serve our community – Markman pointed out.
Judging by the leaked screenshots and info, published on Twitter by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, Snap is also testing other functionalities for Snapchat Plus, including the possibility of marking one of your friends as “#1 BFF"”, change the Snapchat icon and see who rewatches your stories, reports the Nova portal.
The price of Snapchat Plus will be EUR 4.59 a month, and there will be a possibility of an annual subscription at a discount.
After Apple introduced the “ask apps not to track” privacy feature with its iOS 14.5, enabling users to turn off ad tracking from app to app, many free apps were forced to test new monetization options.
Snapchat is not the only social network that wants to have regular paying users. Telegram has already confirmed that it is working on a premium subscription, which should be available later this month, and Twitter launched its Blue service late last year.
