Pumping In of Gas in Hungary to Begin in 20 Days at the Most – Fuel Price Might Increase up to RSD 10 by Winter

The pumping in of gas, which Serbia will get from Russia, into the storage facility in Hungary, is to begin in 15-20 days, and the price of fuel might increase five to ten dinars by this winter, said the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic.

– The storing of gas in Hungary means 10% more security for the winter, and we are also buying coal on the side in order to secure the missing quantities – Vucic told the press in Vranje while visiting the Asylum Center housing refugees from Ukraine in that city.

He added that, in Serbia, 60,000 to 62,000 tons of coal was excavated daily, and that the needs in the winter amounted to up to 95,000 tons of coal a day.

– Due to this, we have to gather a part of the coal until we are no longer capable to excavate more – Vucic said.

He said that Serbia had not been officially notified of the new package of EU sanctions against Russia regarding oil as of then.

– I have seen the draft, but not the final decision, for whose implementation the adjustment period is six months, late November and early December, which is the worst time – Vucic said and added that he had “a great fear about it all”.

According to him, fuel in Serbia could become more expensive by five to ten dinars by the winter, and it is now cheaper than in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.

Serbia previously imported Iraqi oil the most, according to him, but that has changed in the past three months, because oil from Russia is cheaper.

According to him, the construction of an oil storage facility in Serbia is planned with the English, but it will take two years to complete.

He pointed out that Serbia bought everything it could and that the state would give it its best to prepare, because, when the winter came, not even money, as the most important resource, would help buy electricity or oil at affordable prices.
