Emerging Europe has declared Belgrade the city with the greatest economic potential in the region

For the second time in a row, Emerging Europe has declared Belgrade the city with the greatest economic potential, in the competition of the 100 largest cities in the region - the Government of Serbia announced.

The region, as defined by Emerging Europe, includes 23 economies of Central, Eastern, Southeastern Europe and the South Caucasus, out of which 11 are members of the European Union (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia).

Emerging Europe is a London-based organization that aims to promote the potential of emerging countries.

The government states that the council of this organization includes prominent European leaders - former European Commissioner for Enlargement, Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Enterprise and Industry Guenter Verheugen, former Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Moldova Jon Sturza, former Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Deputy Prime Minister for Economy and Minister of Privatization of Slovakia Ivan Miklos, NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana and others.

This year, Belgrade is also ranked third, based on the number of talented people, whereas in 2021 it was in the fifth place.

Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, has been named the city with the best business environment for 2022.

The jury, which decided on the cities' ranking, consists of more than 100 global experts on foreign direct investment (FDI), site selection advisers and location analysts. During 2021, they analyzed 100 cities in Europe with a population of over 200,000, as well as two capitals in the region, where the population is below 200,000.

- We expect such recognitions to greatly contribute to the additional attraction of foreign investors, considering that such references are an important factor in their decision on potential investments - the Government states.

An award ceremony will be held in Brussels on June 23 as part of the Emerging Europe summit. The Future of Emerging Europe 2022 is the fifth edition of the awards that showcases the very best of the region: individuals, public and private organizations, as well as projects and initiatives.

This year, three programs from Serbia entered the finals: My First Salary (Moja prva plata), Digital Expedition (Digitalna ekspedicija) and Unbreakable (Nesalomivi).
