From June, Bulgaria will be getting supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the USA, which will help the country after the Russian Gazprom stopped the supplies, the government in Sofia announced yesterday.

The arrangement was agreed at a meeting between Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov and US Vice-President Kamala Harris in Washington, the announcement says, as reported by Reuters.

– Realistic supplies of liquefied natural gas to Bulgaria from June at prices lower than Gazprom’s were agreed – says the announcement of the Bulgarian government without revealing concrete details.

Gazprom stopped gas supplies to Bulgaria and Poland on April 27 due to their refusal to make payments in rubles.

Bulgaria spends around 3 billion cubic meters of gas a year, of which more than 90% came from Russia.

Sofia has intensified negotiations with Azerbaijan about increasing gas deliveries and it strives to contract LNG supplies through terminals in Greece and Turkey. It also advocates the joint purchase of gas of EU member states, in order to make the prices more competitive, Blic reports.
