Production of Electric Cars in Kragujevac to Start in 2024 – Government and Stellantis Sign Agreement Worth EUR 190 Million

The agreement on the financing of the production of electric cars at the Fiat factory in Kragujevac, worth EUR 190 million, was signed today at the Presidency of Serbia.

The agreement was signed by the minister of economy of Serbia, Andjelka Atanaskovic, and the director general of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Serbia Kragujevac and the head of the Global Corporate Office of Stellantis, Silvia Vernetti Blina.

In his speech following the signing of the agreement, the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, pointed out that “the signing of this agreement marks a new era of investments in Serbia” and added that EUR 48 million would be set aside from the state budget for this investment, says the portal of the Presidency.

As he said, a transition period until 2023 is to follow, and the production should start in 2024.

The president emphasized that the investment was important not just for Kragujevac and Sumadija, but for the entire Serbia, because it entailed an additional growth for the country.

The CEO of Stellantis, Carlos Tavares, announced that a new compact car, yet to be named, would be produced at the Kragujevac factory, as a successor to the Fiat 500L model, which is currently produced at the factory, Stellantis says in a press release.

– The factory can also be configured so as to support potential additional quantities of another vehicle, based on a continued upgrade of the performances – Tavares said.

He said that the new platform, meant for electric vehicles, would perfectly suit the products from the A, B and C categories and upgrade efficient and clean solutions for the urban mobility of their brands.

– Together with the interested parties from Serbia, we will offer to the citizens the freedom of movement and fight against global warming through clean, safe and affordable solutions. This requires a 360-degree approach, from energy prices to incentives which support the turning of the market toward electric vehicles. The combination of those activities will put Serbia and Europe in a solid position regarding the energy transition toward an affordable and sustainable mobility – Tavares concluded.
