Delegation of the City of Nis has talked with the representatives of French Sagem about further implementation of business plans in Nis. It was confirmed during the talks that the investment by the French manufacturer of high-technology electronic and communication equipment would be implemented in 2011.
One of the most important topics of the conversation was the selection of the location for construction of a plant in Nis. Sagem was offered several locations for the plant, including Donje Medjurovo work zone and the space of Electronic Industry (EI) Nis, and Sagem's representatives chose a location in Donje Medjurovo work zone. It was agreed that the French manufacturer of electronic equipment should decide by the end of the year if the planned business activity would be implemented as a brownfield or as a greenfield investment.
It was said at the meeting that the investment would be implemented in two phases. The first phase should include equipping of the facility at 3,000 to 4,000 square meters and employment of up to 200 people. During the second phase, the production should be commenced at 10,000 square meters and 500 workers should be hired for that purpose. The next step is the negotiating with the Government of Serbia on the allotment of subventions for implementation of this investment.
The Government of Serbia and the City of Nis have signed with French Sagem a protocol on cooperation, which enables opening of a unit for production of electric meters of the French in Nis-based Electronic Industry. There is also a possibility that the French company starts producing components for TV signal digitization in the newly opened plant.
