Dedinje Institute: European Record in Number of TAVI Procedures Carried Out in One Day Broken

The medical doctors at the Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases “Dedinje” have broken the European record in the number of TAVI procedures carried out in one day. The expert teams of the Dedinje Instittue managed to carry out 13 TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation) procedures, therefore definitely conquering the European throne, which they shared with a hospital in Leipzig until now.

Thirteen patients got a new valve, which consists of a stent containing parts of pig heart tissue. The implants will not only extend their lives but also raise their quality.

This achievement was realized by the team of medical doctors from the institute consisting of Dr. Dragan Sagic and the interventional cardiologists Dr. Darko Boljevic, Dr. Mihailo Farkic, Dr. Sasa Hinic, Dr. Milan Dobric, Dr. Dragan Topic, as well as excellent nurses and technicians, whereas the echocardiography was done by Dr. Aleksandra Nikolic.

This mini-invasive surgical procedure entails the replacement of the diseased valves by “extensions” made of pig heart tissue, without using a scalpel, opening the chest or stopping the patient’s heart.
