Emir Kusturica prepares new movie “Zavet”, construction of new facilities 7 km away from his Drvengrad

For his latest feature-length movie “Zavet” (the Oath), which is being prepared as the documentary film about Maradona is being finished and whose shooting will start in February 2006, Kusturica will again have the interesting facilities built some 7 km away from his cult town of Drvengrad. The movie will be finished in one year. It will be a comedy about sad themes. It is the story about an oath, which is said on a winter day in an almost deserted mountain village where State commission closes the school because there is only one pupil left... There, an old man and his grandson live alone and that old man, feeling that the death is close, makes his grandson take an oath that he will sell the only cow they have, that he will go to the town, buy an icon and bring the wife to the village... However, neither grandfather dies, nor grandson reaches the town easily, but he manages to bring a girl to the village and marry her.
The screenplay is based on the idea of actor Rade Marković. Entire new village has already been built for the needs of the film. It is settled on Tara, 7 km away from Drvengrad/Mećavnik. There are about 20 mountain log cabins, church, school... The scenography is designed by Rajo Marković and everything will be built on surface of 5 ha.
“Zavet” is backed by Belgrade-based Rasta international and French Kanal + and Fidelite. The most famous Spanish actor Haviar Bardem obliged to learn Serbian, so he can play in Kusta’s movie.
