EPS Reducing Use of Mazut in Thermal Power Blocks – Study for Improvement of Energy Efficiency in Open-Pit Mines Being Prepared

Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) has opened the tender for the preparation of the feasibility study for the improvement of energy efficiency in the open-pit coal mines of Kolubara and Kostolac basins.

According to the technical specification of the tender, the implementation of the system for production management leads to the development of the system for the management and control of coal quality, which, in the long term, enables the planning of the quality of the lignite delivered to thermal power plants.

– The implementation of these systems enables a considerable reduction of the quantity of mazut for the support to the combustion process, increases the efficiency of the operations of thermal power blocks and reduces the emission of harmful gases – the tender says.

In concrete terms, the implementation of the system of energy management through this study will enable the monitoring of the consumption of primary energy in various production units and sectors within EPS, which enables the identification of losses and the monitoring of energy consumption in real time, which enables a timely reaction in case there’s a malfunction at one of the sectors.

Let us remind that, following the recent accidental disconnection of TENT’s blocks from the system, the experts pointed to the problem of using large quantities of mazut for the combustion of lower-quality coal, which forced Serbia to import expensive mazut in the midst of the electrical energy crisis.
