This is a pedestrian-bicycle bridge that will connect the wharf with a tunnel beneath the Petrovaradin Fortress, and whose construction was announced three years ago.
In late 2019, at the contest for the preliminary design for the construction of a new bridge in the place of the former railway bridge which was demolished in 1941, the team consisting of Fedor Juric, Ognjen Graovac, Ivan Suic, Martina Milosevic, Milka Gnjato and Ivan Zuliani won.
According to the project task, within the project design of the bridge which will be located on the route of the former Franz Joseph Bridge, the designer should propose an economic solution with an applicable construction technology.
The bridge will be around 450 meters long, with lookouts and rests for pedestrians. The repair and reconstruction of the existing pillars is planned as well.
Lighting and decorative lighting of the bridge structure are planned too.
In the zone of the access structure, between the bridge and the tunnel, a cycling connection is planned, along with a cobblestone road, as well as a pedestrian connection with a path on the crown of the Danube Embankment, which will be reconstructed.
The former railway tunnel, 355 meters long, beneath the Petrovaradin rock, according to the tendering documentation, is in a relatively good condition.
– In addition to a pedestrian-cycling communication, the tunnel is also planned as an exhibit space dedicated to the history of the Petrovaradin Fortress. A vertical pedestrian-cycling connection with the flat area on the Upper Fortress is planned, with two elevators – the tender says.
The Lovoturs zone, with an access to the tunnel, is planned for tourism and hospitality. The existing complex of facilities in the area of the former railway station will be kept within it and be reconstructed, and the construction of additional pedestrian and bicycle lanes as a connection with Petrovaradin and the fortress is planned as well.
The value of the services sought through the tender is estimated at RSD 50 million.
The tender expires on January 17, and more details can be found HERE.
Let us remind that, in March 2021, the mayor of Novi Sad, Milos Vucevic, stated that the local authorities were having talks with the European Investment Bank on securing the credit for the financing of the construction of this bridge.
