American Company Wants to Build Solar Panels on 2,000 Hectares All Over Serbia – Preparation for First Power Plant Between Zajecar and Negotin Begins

This August, the Ministry of Mining and Energy signed an agreement on cooperation with the American company UGT Renewables LLC, which is in the business of renewable energy sources. The intention of this company from Florida is to build solar panels with a total power of around 1,000 MW, on an area of around 2,000 hectares on around ten locations throughout Serbia, and the first steps have already been made.

The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure has adopted the decision on the Strategic Assessment of the Environmental Impact of the Spatial Plan of the Special-Purpose Area of Solar Photovoltaic Power Plants in the territory of the city of Zajecar and the municipality of Negotin.

The rough border of the plan covers the following cadaster municipalities in the territory of the city of Zajecar: Brusnik, Velika Jasikova, Metris, Salas-varos and Salas-selo, whereas, in the territory of the municipality of Negotin, it covers the following cadaster municipalities: Brestovac, Jasenica, Karbulovo, Sikole I and Sikole II.

The final border of the spatial plan will be determined by the draft spatial plan.

The deadline for the preparation of the strategic assessment is 12 months, and, according to the decision, the funds for the preparation are secured by UGT Renewables LLC from Miami.

As said at the signing of the agreement, the construction of solar power plants would provide Serbia with an additional gigawatt of electricity, and carbon-dioxide emissions would be lowered by 1.9 million tons a year.

The CFO of UGT Renewables LLC, Peter Goodall, pointed out at the time that local companies would work on the realization of their project in Serbia.

– One of our priorities is to focus on brownfield land, that is, land which has no great economic value at the moment, and can be used for new projects – Goodall said.

As eKapija recently wrote, according to the Draft Program of Economic Reforms for the next two years, Serbia also plans big investments in solar energy.

According to that program, state projects of solar power plants would be realized on state land which is dominated by over 200,000 hectares of infertile agricultural land, where it is possible to build around 2,000 MW in solar power plants, and, as pointed out, within this plan, the agreement on cooperation with UGT Renewables LLC was signed as well.
