A joint border cross railway station to be built on the Serbia - North Macedonia border - Project value EUR 5.2m

The concept of "green corridors", promoted in the Western Balkans as a temporary, rapid response to the COVID-19 state of emergency, has proven to be one of the most successful examples of regional co-operation, with Serbia and North Macedonia moving it a step further, said Macedonian Transport and Communications Minister Blagoj Bocvarski.

- The implementation of the project Joint Railway Station for the border cross with the Republic of Serbia is currently underway. The total estimated value of the investment is EUR 5.2m - Bocvarski said at the panel "Public and private investments and competitiveness" - the Macedonian portal Frontline reported.

According to him, the project envisages the construction of a new, modern joint station in accordance with the standards of the European Union, which will house the official staff of the border police, customs and inspection services of the two countries.

The existing buildings for accommodation of the railway infrastructure staff and railway transporters will also be upgraded, and the construction of a new water supply and sewerage system with a water purification plant is planned, as well as the improvement of the connection between the road and railway crossing by building a new access road.

- The facilities will cover a total area of 2,500 m2 - Bočvarski specified.

Bocvarski assessed that it is necessary to connect the two concepts - the EU green belt and the WB6 - which implies the implementation of a series of joint measures at the border crossings between the Western Balkans and the EU.
