Pancevo to Become “Serbian Hollywood” – Film Town to be Raised on Six Hectares

A plan which was only speculated about up till three years ago is becoming the reality – Pancevo is getting a complex of three film studios of 12,000 square meters. The investor in the big project is Firefly Productions from Belgrade. With this investment, Pancevo is solidifying its position as a center for fans of cinematography, Politika writes.

Project of special importance

The construction was postponed by the Covid pandemic, so, instead of the initially planned starting date of March 2020, the works started in the summer of 2021 and are expected to take one year, Politika reports.

The story about the film studio started back in 2019 with the regulation and the infrastructural equipping of 60,069 square meters of land along the Bavaniste Road, near the racing track, a barren land which has been the place for the trading of antiques for decades and which features an emptied out building of the refugee center.

The purchase of the city-owned plot of land for RSD 54.1 million followed. The investor announced that it planned to invest an additional EUR 5.8 million “for the raising of a studio, an education facility and other features of the tourist center”. The project was also deemed a project “of special importance” for Pancevo, “because the film town will upgrade the tourism, culture and promotion of the city”.
