Good vision in three minutes - Contemporary laser method in Eye hospital Profesional Dr. Suvajac

For all those who want to permanently get rid of glasses and lenses, Eye hospital Profesional Dr. Suvajac has started performing laser eye surgeries, and the number of patients interested in this vision correction method is constantly growing.

People in this hospital, of which headquarters is in Zemun, say that they are contacted by people of various profiles and professions, primarily businessmen, journalists, public figures, actors, students, as well as sportsmen whose training is limited because they wear glasses or contact lenses.

- After the procedure, you will not need glasses or lenses any more. There are people who cannot wear glasses or contact lenses because of their thickness or for other reasons, and there are also people whose vision in one eye is significantly different from the vision in the other eye. For them, laser eye surgery is a solution to the problem – MA Sci. Med. Dr. Gordana Suvajac, ophtalmology specialist and medical director of Profesional hospital, speaks about the advantages of laser eye surgery for eKapija.

This intervention takes 3 to 5 minutes per eye, while complete preparation, including disinfection and anesthesia (numbing eye drops), takes about half an hour.

- Laser corrects the vision from + 0.50D to + 5.0D and from -0.50D to – 12.0D, as well as astigmatism from +4.0D to -4.0D. Some patients still need glasses or contact lenses following laser vision correction, though their prescription level typically will be much lower than before, e.g. instead of – 16.0D before the laser intervention to - 4.0D or from +6.0D to + 2.0D. However, there is a possibility of installation of transparent lenses when prescription levels are high or replacement of lenses in case of blurred vision as in cataract – Dr. Suvajac explains.

Dr. Suvajac points out that already after three days, unless some heavy physical works or dirty works involving much smoke and dust are in question, patient can return to his regular daily activities. Bathing in a swimming pool, river or sea is not advised within minimum two weeks after the surgery, but it is usually not recommended within about one month after the laser intervention.

Dr. Suvajac says that the undesired effects appear very rarely.

- Undesired effects exist in less than 1% of cases, approximately the same as with the users of contact lenses, but all effects are transient and solvable almost immediately. Sometimes, patient may feel itching and pinching 1 hour after the intervention, which can be eliminated with drops.

Laser vision correction is done all over the world for about 20 years and it is estimated that about 1m people undergo laser eye surgery every year. There are no official data in Serbia on the number of people who were subject to that surgery. Dr. Gordana Suvajac points out that people in our country constantly get more and more information on this type of intervention and that they now find it much easier to decide to undergo such surgery.

- We are doing our best to keep the price as acceptable as possible, just like the prices of all other services of ours. Laser eye surgery costs EUR 1,900 for both eye, we are giving a discount of EUR 900 for surgeries in August, so that the price of whole intervention is EUR 1,000.
