Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has announced that, in the first half of the year, Serbia realized an increase in direct foreign investments of 18.9%.

Vucic said on TV Happy that he had talked to the governor of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS), Jorgovanka Tabakovic, who told him that the level of direct foreign investments was at EUR 1.732 billion in the first half of the year.

– I hope that we will be able to reach EUR 3 billion this year. Still, this is a coronavirus year too, so people are reluctant to invest – he explained.

He also announced that, in the second quarter, Serbia would have an economic growth of 15%. Vucic pointed out that Serbia had a minimal negative growth of minus 1%, that is, minus 0.9%.

He criticized the fact that the minister had spent only 28% of the budget on capital investments:

– The ministers, directors of public enterprises, did not spend the money, because the projects were not prepared. They asked for more money than they could spend.

Vucic also pointed out that the Serbian GDP would be worth EUR 50.5 billion or even EUR 51 billion at the end of 2021.
