The company of Mate Rimac is becoming the majority owner of Bugatti, and Rimac Automobili is becoming Rimac Grupa, the Croatian car manufacturer announced yesterday.

Rimac Autmobili says that this is a “another major milestone in its history” and that the move, which was made public yesterday, “combines forces with the iconic automotive brand, Bugatti Automobiles, to create a new automotive and technological powerhouse”, Index reports.

In 10 years, Rimac Automobili has progressed from being a one-man garage-based startup to a new company, Bugatti Rimac d.o.o., which is formed in cooperation with Porsche and Volkswagen Group, the press release says.

Rimac Group will be the major shareholder with a 55% stake. Mate Rimac will retain his original shareholding in Rimac Group at 37%, with Porsche at 24%, Hyundai Motor Group doing the same at 12% and other investors at 27%.

Mate Rimac will lead the new company.

Bugatti and Rimac will both continue as separate respective brands, retaining existing production facilities and distribution channels, whereas the seat and the development of both brands will be located in Croatia, Index reports.
