SKUNDRIC: We are seriously thinking about building a nuclear power plant

The Serbian government is seriously considering building a joint nuclear plant with Bulgaria, said today (July, 8th 2010) Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy, Petar Skundric.

He told reporters that he didn't have anything personal against the idea and by building a joint nuclear power plant in Bulgaria, the electricity would be cheaper in Serbia and by that Serbia would be better positioned in the electrical system of the European countries.
Skundric said this in an interview with reporters during a tour of the site of electrical transmission line near Leskovac, in the company of the head of the EU Delegation in Serbia, Vincent Dejer.

The proposal to Serbia to participate in building of the nuclear power plant in Bulgaria was presented by Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov during a visit to Serbia on 26th of April of this year, after which Skundric talked with partners in China about a possible credit support for that participation.

Jerer told reporters that the EU energy system in Serbia has invested half a billion euros through various projects and added that Serbia will have multiple benefits from transmission line being built in the south .

This transmission line will help Serbia to attract foreign investors and to strengthen its power network, said Dejer.
