How much money can you carry over the Croatian border without declaring it?

The Croatian parliament has adopted a law according to which natural persons will be obliged, from June 3, to declare cash in the amount of EUR 10,000 or above taken out to or brought in from the EU.

The amendments to the Law on Foreign Exchange Transactions, which lean on the EU regulations, implement new controls of carrying over money and the obligation of declaring cash of EUR 10,000 or more taken out to or brought in from the EU.

Controls are also implemented for packages sent by post, courier deliveries, unaccompanied baggage or baggage as container load, Hina reports.

The Customs Administration will be able to temporarily withhold undeclared cash or cash suspected of being related with criminal activity, regardless of the amount.

Those who forget to declare the proscribed amount of cash stand to pay penalties, which, however, may not exceed 60% of the amount of the undeclared cash.

Aside from cash, the law also covers cards with previously paid sums, coins containing at least 90% gold, gold bars etc.
