African Swine Fever Appears Near Zajecar – Ministry: Measures Taken Immediately

The Veterinary Department has determined the presence of the African swine fever virus on a farm in the Veliki Izvor location near Zajecar, following which all the necessary protection measures were taken, the Ministry of Agriculture told Tanjug on April 10.

The African swine fever virus was detected during the regular supervision of the farms and the control of the health of the heads of livestock on the farm near the border with Bulgaria, a country with an extremely high presence of the African swine fever virus.

Thanks to the established system of a quick analysis of samples for the presence of the virus, the competent services of the Veterinary Department shortly carried out all the proscribed protection measures in that territory, in order to stop the further spreading of the diseases, the ministry says.

They also add that, thanks to the system of quick analysis, in the past period, the further spreading of the virus was also stopped when it was detected in the territory of Aleksinac.

The Veterinary Department once again appeals to all pig owners, including large farms, to implement all the measures of protection and prevention with utmost responsibility to the end of preventing the further spreading of the African swine fever virus, whose economic consequences can be enormous.
